(Note this tour operates every day from between June 1 and October 15.)
Itinerary:
Day 1 - (L)
In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel for this half- day tour.
Sites and landmarks you will see:
* Tlos is known to have been one of the most important religious centers of the Lycian civilization.
It is known as the city where mythological hero Bellerophon and his winged flying horse, Pegasus, lived. Determined as the oldest Lycian city based on archaeological excavations, Tlos dates back to the time before 2,000 B.C. The graveyard on the rocks of the city's acropolis was filled with most elaborate house-type tombs of Lycia. It is believed that the "king-type" tomb in the necropolis is dedicated to Bellerophon.
As one of the six principal cities of Lycia (and one of the most powerful), Tlos once bore the title under the Roman empire of "'the very brilliant metropolis of the Lycian nation".
* Saklikent Gorge
is the second largest canyon in Europe.
The canyon is 300 meters deep and 18 km long, resulting from the water erosion of the rocks over thousands of years. Interestingly, as the level of water rises during winter months, visitors can only enter the canyon in the summer. Four kilometers of the canyon are walkable after April, when most of the snow in the Taurus Mountains has melted. Saklikent means "hidden city" in Turkish.
